It’s Iris Season, FINALLY

The First Iris of the Year! And from the looks of the rest of the bed, lots more to come :)
The First Iris of the Year! And from the looks of the rest of the bed, lots more to come 🙂

IF the weather cooperates, I expect this to be the first of a bumper crop 🙂 The few old Dutchies that came up look like they’ll bloom before the new ones I planted in March, which makes sense, since they are established. No sign of the monster Hollyhock yet; I still think that was a fluke, but with the rain we’ve gotten the last 16 months, you never know what’s going to appear….

AND the First Butterfly of the Season, too! As usual, not as cooperative as flowers... Consider it an action shot :)

Easter came – the Bunny bypassed us this year, since no one eats the goodies he leaves behind, though I had a couple of kids who I think were expecting toys (DVDs and gift cards). They’ll get over it….

Dogwoods almost done...

On to the stitching. Since I finished that LHN Sheep Virtues piece last week, I got back to Magical Butterfly on Thursday. I got a pretty good bit done on the 2nd wing, so it’s progressing quickly. Still not too close to getting the beads on it, but it’ll get there 🙂

I also kept plugging away at Desert Mandala Part 3. Remember me saying the feathers are probably my least favorite part of this? Yeah…. Well, after getting them half done (and still have 4 to do), STILL not my favorite part. They aren’t hard, they aren’t that big, they look cool when done; just really don’t like stitching them. AND I’m getting them in the right place, so it’s not even that. I will just be glad to get ALL of this part DONE! I do have 3 sides done, so the blocks & octagon border – with beads – is almost done. I am looking forward to they NEXT part 🙂

The blanks in the border will have bicones later – turquoise, I think…

And that’s it for the week. This week, I am continuing on both of these; I actually took Desert off the floor stand last night (to scroll it up to get to the bottom part, and when I took the pictures) and put Butterfly on for a couple of hours after dinner; I just needed a break before I start the next feathers. Meanwhile Dragonfly Tile is getting louder & louder – so long as we have daylight (not overcast for days on end), it will be my next focus. I have lots of things that would really like to get started soon, so the sooner I can get through my To Finish list, the sooner I can cave in to startitis 🙂 On that note, Happy Stitching!

  1. Love the butterfly and Desert! I am tempted to try and see if irises would survive in my yard or not. So pretty!

  2. You’re at least 3 weeks ahead of me! My irises are about 4 inches high and the dogwoods have just started flowering this week. I still have lots of small blue flowers (chionodoxa and Scilla)

  3. FABulous irises! I know you’re not a fan of the feathers on DM, but they do look good. Magical Butterfly’s colours are gorgeous too. Must get up the courage for a Chat …

  4. I can’t wait till we have flowers up here! The mandala and the butterfly are both gorgeous.. I really need to find some stitching time!!
