Startapalooza Continues Into 2015 – an Update

Whoever invented Startapalooza is a GENIUS! Oh, wait, I invented it *pats self on back*! It’s been fun going through some new things for the new year – I was so determined to finish last year, and because I did, all these new WIPs have me relatively guilt-free. I did have to go buy another 3-drawer cabinet for them though; no idea why finishing all of those last year didn’t clear out ANY space? Oh well, who knows what those project bags get up to when they are unsupervised? Before I show you more newbs, here is my ort jar for 2014 – it’s FULL!

All Home Orts for 2014 :)

So when I last posted, I was getting ready to begin Plum Pudding, I believe. I worked on it through New Year’s Eve, and got the top left corner this far:

Glendon Place's Plum Pudding, on 28ct linen in Sprite from PTP (it is grey, not lavender like it should be - which works out) and my conversion to Carrie's silks!

A couple of the Carrie’s purples are closer than I thought they would be, but then, when I go back to look at the called-for Dinky Dyes, those are, too – so I think I’m still good 🙂 I LOVE these colors and of course I love the silks – so nice to work with 2 projects in Carrie’s again (Anatolia in my last update uses cottons). I am a long way from beads on this, though – once I get further into it, I’ll decide if I’m going to bead as I go, or do them at the end. Right now, I’m thinking at the end – but you know I sometimes get impatient for the shiny stuff 🙂

Cardinals are tired of their bird seed being wet :(
Cardinals and doves are tired of their bird seed being wet 🙁 This was supposed to be a shot of 9 blue jays, 3 cardinals and 1 woodpecker, but, well, I left to go get the camera, came back and this is what I had…

My New Year’s Start was Hummingbird Lace/Sparkly Hummingbird/whateveryoucallit. I took this to IHOP on New Year’s Day, and after I spread out onto at least 2 tables and a seat, I put my long-awaited first stitches in. Since then, I have been working away at it, including getting beads on in the middle section, and am ready to begin the first over-1 hummingbird (oh my eyes!). This one wasn’t released in multiple parts, so I would expect I’m on what would have been Part 3 (Part 2 being getting these flowers in all around?). So far, I’ve used about equal amounts of silk & DMC – and haven’t even touched but 2 of the 19 cards of metallic used in this! Here it was as of last night:

Chatelaine Hummingbird Lace -on a custom-dyed piece of 28ct Jobelan from Faery Fire Fabrics (out of business?), using various silks, DMC, RG PTB and Miyuki Delicas.

LOVING this project so far – I thought I would have moved on to the next new start by now, but I’m not ready yet – we’ll see if the over-1 changes my mind 🙂

This past week at IHOP, I wasn’t quite so ambitious, so I continued working my Mill Hill Believe kit, which got blown off while I rushed to finish the Polar Bears. I am very close to beading this one – just need to finish the word, then fill in all the dark blue around it and bs the letters, and then BEADS!

Mill Hill Bead & Button - on the supplied perf. paper.

That’s the progress so far into this new year! On the To Be Started List still are: Wiehenburg Dragon Quaker (in my conversion to Threadworx), SQ Monet: Water Lilies, and JE Autumn Fairy. So one of those will be up just as soon as I get tired of the teeny tiny stitches on Hummingbird; not sure which one yet, whichever one yells loudest when I walk into the room, I guess. So until next time, Happy Stitching!

  1. I love your new starts! Of course, I like purple ALMOST as much as you do :). Believe looks great too, and it will be nice to have a finish amongst all of the new starts.

  2. they all look great. Can’t wait to see more of your Plum Pudding conversion. I now have my fabric as well so hopefully I will also get mine going this year. Believe looks great so far and the Hummingbird looks awesome!

  3. You have some great new projects started and they already show some nice progress. That fabric colour you use for the Chatelaine design is wonderful.

  4. Great pictures! I’ve got that Chatelaine piece in progress, too, but don’t have much done on it. I am considering taking it all out and starting in the center – I usually start in the top left corner, but I really think this one should be started in the center. For me, at least. Love your progress on it! And I love the Mill Hill piece, too! 🙂

  5. oh my! the new Chatelaine is FANTASTIC!! and you accomplished a lot on it already, especially considering you’ve been working on the other two in the past few days! I love them both (and you’re SO close to the beads now!), especially the purples you picked for the GP.
have a great time with them, and no, I have no idea why we never seem to clear out space, just occupying more and more ad infinitum.

  6. Great loads of new starts! I love the Chatelaine and how it sparkles. The colours in Plum Pudding and lovely and the muted colours in Believe are gorgeous – can’t wait to see what it looks like with the beads.
