Catching Up with a Finish and a Half

In case you missed the deafening silence last week, I had The Crud; came home on Friday the 15th, was in bed with the head cold from hell until Tuesday. No stitching, no nothing, except all the benadryl I could stand and tissues scattered all over (new and used). That’s what happens when you combine high levels of stress with germs from out-of-state and let stew for a few days 🙁 So no update last week. among other things that didn’t happen. Apparently, I also took a bunch of photos that I completely forgot I’d taken – imagine my surprise when I plugged the camera in yesterday and saw over 100 files!

So, what WOULD have been in last week’s update did actually manage to get further in the week after the plague let go, and between IHOP on Thursday and then the August edition of PINS, I finished the 3rd block in my SC Life is a Journey piece, taking me to the 1/2 point:

SC POTM series, Life is a Journey, on 28ct Clay, using a variety of threads - a zillion DMC changes in that small space, my conversions to threads I had in the stash. Buttons & charms to come...

I wasn’t really feeling this piece too much, so it felt good to actually get this block done 🙂 The travel bag might get updated with a couple of alternates 🙂 I do have another BtB Cove piece in there, but I may need a 3rd choice 🙂

The BIGGER finish is… Witches Wheel!!! I have to say, I reallllyyyyy hate jamming randomly sized Mill Hill beads onto 32ct hand dyed fabric! I have NEVER had beads fight me to sit where I put them like I did on this piece! It was highly aggravating almost the entire time I was working on it 🙁 The worst parts are the gold buckles on each of the 4 witch’s hats – 2 sides of each one have a row skipped just to make them fit, and they still don’t lay nicely (yes, delicas on Chats have me spoiled – and the 32ct I used for Iris Fairy could have been problematic if I’d had areas of closely packed beads like this does). But I struggled through and GOT IT DONE at 10:15 last night! Which was a week longer than I had planned for 🙁 Here it is, in all its wonky glory:

Witches Wheel by Glendon Place, on 32ct PTP Solar, using yards and yards of 310 and lots of Mill Hill beads. Swearing optional.

And since I went to all the trouble to put these fat-ass beads on, you get to sit through more detail photos 🙂

Doing these cauldrons were the worst – none of these lay neatly. BUT – they look cool when you step back from them, so I guess I can live with it 🙂
Grrr - buckles :(
Grrr – buckles 🙁
Look! It's my old cat Booger!!!

SO GLAD that’s done! I had no idea those beads were going to be so difficult – I have done beads on 32ct before, which is why I insist on doing all of my Chats on 28ct 🙂 NEVER AGAIN! Fortunately, Plum Pudding & Tiramisu are on 28ct like they are supposed to be 🙂 Those’ll be a cake walk after this! So back to that list I’ve been working on:

  • Iris Fairy – Completed 2/2/14
  • Halloween Rules – Completed 3/9/14
  • Both versions of the Ink Circles Roll Your Own mandala that I have going (1 saw progress a couple of weeks ago)
  • Dragonfly Tile – Completed 7/25/14
  • Romeo – Completed 2/16/14
  • Samplar 4 Saisons (only 3 pages left to go!)
  • And maybe Witch’s Wheel  – Completed 8/24/14

As for what’s getting worked on next – no idea! I may get L&U out, or World Tree; I feel the need to work on something complicated but not hard, if you know what I mean. I do NOT feel like working on the last couple of things on my list just yet – I’ve got time 🙂 So after dinner tonight, I’ll go dig and see what yells loudest 🙂

I bet you thought this post would be full of new-pup photos; we do have some cute ones with Dummy & Roo sleeping together on the couch (yes, I guess her name is Roo) – but they are on DH’s phone, and he’s mowing grass, so maybe next week. But I did make the mistake of going back into Petsmart this weekend, and they had betta cubes with HAUNTED HOUSE designs in them – and this awesome orange & white betta, which, fortunately, was still there after I got back from PINS. Tell me this fish wasn’t made to go in this tank:

  1. I kind of like “Life is a Journey”….I’m loving the witches and their fat beads. And I want a betta!!!!!!!!!!

  2. An orange-and-white crowntail betta – way cool! Love the close up tiger swallowtail pix too. And YAY on the WW finish! I’ll admit, Delica beads have me spoiled too; MH are the “walmart” of beads 😛

  3. Great photos and LOVELY stitching! I think WW turned out great and I love the shots of colour with the beads. Well done! I hope you feel MUCH better now.

  4. Congrats on the finish! It looks great- even if the beads did give you fits! Glad you’re feeling better, too!

  5. Congrats on the finish. I had the same problems with the beads and totally agree the Delicas have me spoiled. I wish I had the inventory of those like I have of Mill Hill. Oh well. I found a great black frame for this one online too! Your camera really takes some great photos of butterflies! Or is that the operator?
